2007 Christmas Bird Count results compiled by Vince Lucas for the Fort Myers Area.

The numbers may be a little off due to some late data trickling in, but here are the results I have for yesterday's Ft. Myers' CBC. The weather was extremely cold (<50 degrees F) and the winds somewhat blustery, especially along the Caloosahatchee. The high temperatures for the day barely reached 65 degrees F. Brrr! Perhaps this is a partial explanation for the lack of or low numbers of certain species, especially passerines? Other circles have reported similar results. . . .

Before I forget, I want to personally thank everyone who helped out on the Ft. Myers CBC! Without your dedication, we would have no CBC! You make my job as compiler for this count much easier. Thanks!

Some of the highlights of the count were a whopping 164 Burrowing Owls counted, thanks in part to the efforts of the Cape Coral Friends Of Wildlife (http://www.ccfriendsofwildlife.org/) who helped out our "usual" Caloosa Bird Club members to canvass these areas as well as some other intrepid participants to find these birds. Other highlights: 2 Painted Buntings; 1 Baltimore Oriole (for the second consecutive year on our CBC); 2 Common Loons; 28 Black-hooded Parakeets & 5 Monk Parakeets as well as 7 Rose-ringed Parakeets during count week; one Long-billed Curlew & one Horned Grebe, both photographed, also during Count Week. This list is not in taxonomic order.
