Trip chair Ken Hodgson passed along this interesting info about a Redpoll migration discussion coming out of Tadoussac Bird Observatory, located near the end of the St. Lawrence in Quebec.
From 26-28 Oct, they counted more than 70,000 migrating redpolls, with a
one-day count of 33,000 on the 27th.
Yesterday they tallied 55,000 . . . which brings the total to more than
125,000. They’ve never seen such enormous numbers before. They believe
these are the largest flights ever documented.
